A Glow in the dark

GARY.

He woke up that morning so scared, his heart was racing, his palms were sweaty and he had beads of sweat on his forehead. The shirt he wore to bed was soaked in sweat. One would wonder what kind of dream could have this much effect on a person. For several nights Gary had been having the same dream. He saw himself standing at the beginning of a dark tunnel; he would look around for a while and suddenly see a glow at the end of the tunnel. Soon strange figures run towards him, he tries to run as fast as he can and then he wakes up. He sat on his bed thinking, trying to figure out and interpret his dream. That only confused him more. He contemplated on saying a prayer that morning, but decided not to. He had drawn far away from God and wasn’t even sure if God was still with him; so a prayer then would have been useless.
Gary had the perfect life, the kind of life every guy dreamed off. A good job, steady income, good looks, a big house, luxurious cars and just about everything. He was one of those bachelors every girl wanted. He looked so perfect in the eyes of others but he knew his life was not close to perfect. That empty feeling was always nearby. He felt as though his life was empty. That void within him, he longed to fill it up but he just didn’t know how.

CLARA.
Living in a different city, far away from Gary was Clara. She was a simple girl, one couldn’t tell by just looking at her that she was from a very wealthy home. She drove a very simple car and dressed like every other person. She had everything she wanted but it wasn’t enough. She wanted more than just riches, she wanted to explore, help humanity, and become a hero. That passion drove her to be a doctor. She was like Gary but a little different. Clara knew what she wanted but Gary was lost. He knew he had to do something but just didn’t know what.
She had been having the same dream at night, but in her dream when the strange figures run towards her, she’s not scared instead she keeps on walking and they just run past her. But just before she gets close to the glow she wakes up.
That morning when she woke up, she saw her dream as a wakeup call to do something and she decided to join The Doctors without Borders. She wondered what her parents would think if they found out, knowing fully well that they won’t support the idea, but she was hell bent on going through with her idea.

GARY
Work was just pretty much the same thing, same routine for years for Gary. The void was getting bigger in his heart and he longed to fill it up. His secretary dropped a letter for him. It was an invitation to join The Doctors without Borders; apparently they needed a manager for one of their offices in Keriola. He thought it was funny, maybe someone was just joking around. He called the number on the letter and it turned out to be real.
That night, he slept off while thinking of the offer. He had the same dream again, this time he faced his fear and didn’t run. He walked towards the glow, the light was so bright, and he thought he was going blind. A sudden chill came over him, leaving goose bumps all over his skin. He closed his eyes for a while trying to adjust to the new change. When he finally opened his eyes, he was speechless. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He saw a feminine figure wrapped in white linen which flowed to the floor. He couldn’t see her feet but he knew it was so beautiful. Her face was hidden because the glow that emanated from her face was very bright. Her lips were moving as though she was talking but there was no sound. He moved forward to touch her, seeing the smile on her face he woke up.
That morning was perfect; he left instructions at his office and headed to keriola.

CLARA.
Her parents didn’t like the idea of their daughter running off to one island just to save lives, but there was little they could do to stop her. She hung out with her family and left the next day for Keriola.

GARY, CLARA.
He settled in fine, tried to get used to the place. It wasn’t that bad for him, he felt he was filling the void so that made him happy. That morning he went to the cafeteria to eat when he bumped into Clara. She was wearing a white tank top; jeans short a pair of pink slippers. She was holding her box. While trying to apologize he looked straight into her eyes and he felt something in his heart that he had never felt before. He was in love with her; it was love at first sight. All he could do was just smile; she thought he acted weird because of the unnecessary smiling.

CLARA.
Lying on her tiny wooden bed with a worn out mattress, not what she was used to but she felt good. Her mind drifted back to the incident with the guy in the cafeteria. She didn’t know why she was thinking about him, but he was just in her head. She wanted to scream his name, just then she realized she didn’t ask for his name. She went to bed so excited about her new job. In the morning, she was going to be the doctor in the little island of Keriola.
Turning from side to side on her bed, she mumbled some words and woke up. It was the same dream again, she was so worried that she couldn’t go back to sleep again. She took a walk to calm herself.

GARY, CLARA.
He was having a bad time sleeping, so he decided to take a walk. He saw her again; she stood there leaning on a tree looking so beautiful. He walked up to her and they talked. She got to know his name, he knew hers too and there was this connection. She had this tight knot in her tummy. It was love; she was in love with him too. Sitting on the grass enjoying the moonlight, they talked on and on and didn’t realize they slept off on each other’s arms till the next morning.

A glow in the dark brought them together, but is that all?
